November 2013 - Supporting the Development of Rural Communities’ SEAP and their Potential Funding (Amyntaio, Greece).

The Municipality of Amyntaio and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) are organizing on the 25th of November in Amyntaio, the workshop “Supporting the Development of Rural Communities’ SEAP and their Potential Funding”. The event will include the presentation of the Covenant of Mayors’ initiative and the eReNet web tools for the development of SEAPs, as well as experience and best practices from submitted Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs). In addition, particular emphasis will be laid on the innovative financing mechanisms for sustainable energy investments. This workshop addresses mainly local and regional authorities, interested energy experts and consultants, investors and representatives of relevant funds and programs. June 2013 - EUSEW 2013, Brussels, Local leadership in sustainable energy

Five projects (CONURBANT, leap, CASCADEeReNet and Covenant capaCITY), financed under the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme, will present good peer to peer learning approaches and practical guidance on designing and executing sustainable energy action plans (SEAPs). May 2013 – Implementation of the 2nd Progress Meeting in Judenburg, Austria

The 2nd Progress Meeting was successfully implemented in Judenburg, Austria, on the 27th – 28th of May 2013. The Meeting was launched by Mr. Hannes Dolleschall, Mayor of Judenburg Municipality, and was dedicated on the eReNet activities’ progress so far and next steps. Event photos are available here.

April 2013 – eReNet Winner of the National Energy Globe Award Greece

The project “Rural Web Energy Learning Network for Action (eReNet)”, coordinated by the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), has been honored with the National Energy Globe Award Greece by International Energy Globe Jury! The national ENERGY GLOBE Awards distinguish best project submissions from a country.
The award ceremony will be realized in May, while the projects of all national Energy Globe winners will be presented on the 5th of June, the UN’s World Environment Day to a global public on www.energyglobe.info.
The ENERGY GLOBE Award was founded in 1999 by the Austrian energy pioneer Wolfgang Neumann. Goal of the Award is to present successful sustainable projects to a broad audience, for many of our environmental problems already have good, feasible solutions. More information are available here.

April – October 2013 – Upcoming events in Municipality of Assenovgrad

Τhe Municipality of Assenovgrad has scheduled the following events:
  • An information day on project financing will be held on the 23rd of April 2013, during the Local Energy Days organized in the Municipality of Asenovgrad. Representatives of funds and programs for financial grants and low interest of credit lines will present different ways for improving the energy efficiency and producing energy from renewables.   • On the 24th of April 2013, the Municipality of Asenovgrad organizes a Training Seminar for presenting a web tool for energy planning, elaborated in the framework of eReNet project. The neighboring municipalities are invited to take part in this event, as well as all stakeholders, who take active part in Sustainable Energy Action Plans’ preparation. April - September 2013 – Sertã’s Public events 2013

Τhe Municipality of Sertã has scheduled the following events in 2013:
  • Α Training Workshop will be organised on the 19th of April 2013. The training workshop will be specially targeted at municipalities and stakeholders, in order to allow sharing knowledge in SEAP´s development. Additionally, it will be an opportunity to present eReNet’s web tool.  Download the agenda.  
  • On the 26th of June 2013 the 1st information day will take place in the Municipality of Sertã, within the framework of the European Union Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW 2013). The event will focus on the targets established in the municipality, reflected in the Sustainable Energy Action Plan and the dissemination of bankable projects. Additionally topics addressing financing possibilities either at European or national level will be addressed.
  • The 2nd information day will be held on the 12th of September 2013, focused on financing opportunities in the European Union and the SEAP´s implementation.


February 2013 – Organization of two information days on financing in Amyntaio and Judenburg

In February, 22nd and 23rd, Amyntaio municipality, within the framework of eReNet, co-organized along with the Friedrich Ebert Institute, the Network of Energy Producing Municipalities and the Greek-German municipalities assembly, a two-day information day on "Biomass District heating and targeted financing tools for RES and RUE projects in municipalities".

Moreover, on the 27th and 28th of February, Judenburg municipality, within the framework of eReNet, co-organized with Climate Alliance Austria, an info day on "Experiences in Europe on the Covenant of Mayors, with special sessions dedicated to financing.

October-December 2012 – Submission of the eReNet Rural Communities’ SEAPs

During the period from October to December 2012, the eReNet rural communities submitted their SEAPs via the CoM’s initiative, following the foreseen procedure. In this context, significant preparatory work for the SEAP’s elaboration was carried out. In addition, the adaptation of the municipalities’ administrative structures took place for each municipality, according to the SEAP guidelines. The rural communities participated in two training workshops in Croatia (17-19 October 2011) and Germany (8-10 May 2012), within the framework of «eReNet» project. The decisive factor for the SEAPs’ successful implementation was the active contribution of all local stakeholders for the configuration of local energy and environmental policies. Together, the local authorities and stakeholders can co-create the energy vision for the territory and the ways for its implementation, and invest financial and human resources towards this direction. In this respect, the municipalities implemented unofficial meetings with the local stakeholders. Moreover, two public consultation meetings on the SEAP were realized in each rural community, on June-July and October 2012.

September - October 2012 – eReNet Participation in Conferences and relevant Events

September 2012 – Implementation of the Interim Progress Meeting in Asenovgrad, Bulgaria

The Interim Progress Meeting was successfully implemented in Asenovgrad, Bulgaria, on the 10th – 11th September 2012. The Meeting was launched by the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Asenovgrad, who welcomed all participants in the region and expressed the Municipality’s commitment to the eReNet objectives. The Meeting was focused on the project status and the upcoming activities. Special emphasis was placed on the status regarding the SEAPs’ preparation and the results from the public consultation meetings. It was commonly agreed during the roundtable discussions that the feedback from the regional actors and stakeholders is extremely significant for the identification of the actions envisaged under the SEAP. Case study visit was also realized in the EVN newly built CHP plant.

June - July 2012 – Successful organization of the 1st Public Consultation Meeting on SEAP by the eReNet’s rural communities

The eRenet’s rural communities organised the 1st Public Consultation Meeting on the draft version of their SEAPs in June and July. These events provided the opportunity to local key players, such as energy agencies, energy companies, local associations and general public to participate in discussions, so that they identify potential grounds of disagreements and their priorities towards a more energy sustainable community. It should be noted that the Municipality of Amyntaio organized this event within the concept of the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW 2012).

June 2012 – Organization of the 1st Public Consultation Meeting on Amyntaio’s SEAP

Amyntaio municipality, in collaboration with NTUA-EPU and NEProM, is organizing an energy day within the framework of EUSEW2012, on Wednesday, 20th of June 2012, at 10:00 am in Filotas. This energy day will be dedicated to the discussion with local key stakeholders on the community’s draft Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP) and its medium term energy planning. April 2012 - Organisation of the 2nd Training Workshop in May 2012

The organisation of the 2nd Training Workshop “Sustainable Energy Planning - Methodology and implementation” is scheduled in the Town of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate, on the 8-10th of May 2012. The event is restricted to representatives and technical personnel of the local regional authorities. 1st Joint Projects Meeting, Brussels – Belgium, March 29th, 2012

The Coordinators of 5 IEE-supported projects, namely eReNet, LEAP, Cascade, CONURBANT and COVENANT CAPACITY, participated in the 1st Joint Projects Meeting held on the 29th of March 2012, in Brussels, Belgium. This event was the first joint effort among the representatives of these projects on the development of potential synergies, so as to assure the wider dissemination and impact of results.

1st Progress Meeting, Sertã – Portugal, March 5th6th 2012

The 1st Progress meeting was successfully implemented in Sertã – Portugal, on the 5th – 6th March 2012. Main objective was to present and discuss eReNet’s progress, provide feedback of the implemented work and the accomplished targets, as well as to plan the work ahead.
The Meeting was launched by the Mayor of Municipality of Sertã, Mr. José Farinha Nunes who welcomed all participants in Sertã – Portugal and expressed the Municipality’s commitment to the eReNet objectives.
Representatives from all the involved Municipalities and learning communities participated to the 1st Progress Meeting, while the roundtable discussions triggered from the Meeting were considered, by all participants, as very helpful and effective towards common problem solving, decision making and therefore implementation of further progress, regarding eReNet goals and targets.
Finally, the main framework of the 2nd Training Workshop implementation was outlined. The workshop’s theme will be “Sustainable Energy Planning - Methodology and implementation” and its’ elaboration is planned for the 8th-10th of May 2012, in the town of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate.

3rd Covenant of Mayors ceremony, Brussels – Belgium, November 29th, 2011

On the 29th of November 2011, Mr. José Farinha Nunes (Mayor of Sertã), Mr. Drago Prahin  (Mayor of Sveta Nedelja) and Mr. Ivan Gereci (Mayor’s deputy of Dugo Selo) participated in the 3rd Covenant of Mayors ceremony in Brussels, as a token of their political commitment to the Covenant of Mayors’ objectives. The event provided interesting discussions between European policymakers and regions, in order to create a strong link and a fruitful dialogue between European policy initiatives and mayors’ hands-on experience.

By November 2011, all eReNet communities signed up to the Covenant of Mayors initiative, committing to reduce the CO2 emissions in their respective territories by at least 20%, through the implementation of a Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP). In this context, these communities have already adapted the municipalities’ administrative structures and have initiated energy data collection within the SEAPs’ framework. Moreover, unofficial meetings have been implemented with the local stakeholders.
eReNet municipalities and their local liaisons (NTUA, EAO, REGEA, BSERC, IrRADIARE) are working on the development of a first draft of the communities’ SEAPs, to be put for public consultation. The local authorities will organize and implement the 1st public consultation meeting on the SEAPs, with the participation of local key players in June-July 2012. The relevant SEAPs will have been completed by the end of October 2012.

1st Training workshop, Cavtat - Croatia, October 17th – 19th, 2011

The 1st Training Workshop was implemented in Cavtat – Dubrovnik, Croatia, on the 17th - 19th of October 2011. The Workshop attracted various representatives from Municipalities of Croatia, as well as energy agencies, energy companies developing RES/RUE applications and environmental funds. Special emphasis was laid on the analysis of the methodology towards the development and implementation of the SEAPs as well as the knowledge transfer and experience exchange between the participants.

Furthermore, presenters were very effective in transferring knowledge and skills about CoM initiative, the procedure how and why to join CoM, also through panel discussion.

Within the Workshop’s framework best practice examples were illustrated as the participants had the opportunity to visit sights with small scale RES/RUE applications.

The 1st Training Workshop was organized back-to-back with the Sustainable Energy Finance and Investment Summit in an effort to increase capacity building on available national or EU funds.

Sustainable Energy Finance and Investment Summit, Cavtat – Croatia, October 19th – 22nd, 2011
The main aim of the Sustainable Energy Finance and Investment Summit, on the 19th to 22nd October 2011, in Cavtat, Croatia was to identify ways of financing RES/RUE projects using innovative financial instruments.
Within this framework, the existing financing tools for RES/RUE investments were presented, as well as the means for their utilization by the Municipalities. The Conference highlighted the importance of investment and regional co-operation to promote energy efficiency, with a view to reduce energy costs, better protect the environment and increase security of energy supply.

Kick off Meeting, Amyntaio - Greece, September 12th –13th, 2011

The eReNet Kick off Meeting was successfully implemented in Amyntaio Greece, on the 12th and 13th of September 2011. The main objective was to launch eReNet and start the effective dissemination of its aim and objectives. In particular, eReNet’s Kick off Meeting was held in the Municipality Board’s Hall, with the support of the Municipality of Amyntaio Mayor Mr. Ioakeim Iosifidis.

Representatives of all the involved Municipalities and learning communities participated in the Kick off Meeting. Participants expressed their strong political will towards promoting RES/RUE practices within their Municipalities and communities, while the intention by all eReNet learning Municipalities to sign up to the Covenant of Mayors (CoM) until the end of November 2011 was conveyed.
